About Subterranean Termites
Subterranean termites are the most destructive termite species in Hawaii, with the Formosan subterranean termite being particularly aggressive. These termites live in massive underground colonies that can contain millions of individuals, and they build mud tubes to travel from the soil to the wood structures they feed on.
Formosan subterranean termites are sometimes called 'super termites' because of the sheer size of their colonies and the speed at which they consume wood. A mature colony can eat through a foot of 2x4 lumber in as little as 25 days. They swarm in large numbers on warm, humid evenings — typically between May and July in Hawaii — and are strongly attracted to lights.
Terminatus Pest Control provides expert subterranean termite detection and treatment services across Oahu. We use advanced baiting systems, liquid barrier treatments, and monitoring stations to protect your property from these highly destructive pests. Regular inspections are essential in Hawaii, where subterranean termite pressure is year-round.
